BACKGROUND:
Last December 15, 2011, a Tropical Storm (TS) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) through the eastern part of Mindanao and was named “Sendong”. At 4:00 pm of December 16, the Tropical Storm made landfall in the vicinity of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. At December 17, the weather disturbance has weakened and slows down slightly as it continues to move closer Palawan.
PRESENT WEATHER SITUATION:
Synopsis: At 4:00 am today, Tropical Storm “Sendong” was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 60 km west northwest of Puerto Princesa City with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move west at 24 kph. Wind convergence affecting the eastern section Luzon.
Forecast:Palawan will experience stormy weather. Cuyo and Coron group of islands will have rains with gusty winds. The rest of Luzon and Visayas will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the eastern sections which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the Northeast and East with slight to moderate seas.

- Flooding occurred in Sigma, Capiz affecting 13 Barangays namely - Agbo, Amaga, Cogon, Dayhagon, Poblacion Norte, Poblacion Sur, Guintas, Pagbunitan, Bangon-bangon, Mangoso, Capuyhan, Tawog, and Matangcong
- Flooding also occurred in Panitan, Capiz namely Brgys Cabanghan and Cabugao.

- Flooding occurred in Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte on 15 December 2011. Affected Families were temporarily evacuated to higher grounds for safety. As of reporting time, flood water already subsided.
- Flooding also occurred in Barangays Turno and Dicayas, all in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte on 15 December 2011, at around 10:00 AM:
_ In Sitio Wakwak, Brgy. Turno, six (6) houses and one (1) Day Care Center were totally destroyed by raging flood water. About 60 families / 300 persons were evacuated in Turno Elementary School. Five (5) other sitios were affected by flooding but no reported of displacement.
_ In Brgy. Dicayas, residents opted to stay with their respective houses in spite of the reported rise of flood level. On the other hand, Barangays Officials will execute forced evacuation if the situation warrants

- Massive flooding has been reported all over the region. Reports suggest that the overflowing of the river systems of Mandulog and Agus as the source of the flooding.

_ Flooding occurred in Cagayan de Oro City affecting 22 barangays namely: Agusan, Baikingon, Balubal, Balulang, Bugo, Canito-an, Carmen, Consolacion, Cugman, Gusa, Iponan, Kauswagan, Macabalan, Macasandig, Puntod, Tablon, Brgy. 6, Brgy. 7, Brgy. 10, Brgy. 13, Brgy. 14, and Brgy. 15.
_ Flooding occurred in Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental affecting 6 barangays namely: Catadman, Bacolod, Maningcol, Aguada Annex, Gango, and Lam-an.
_ Flooding in Brgy. Lapasan, Clarin, Misamis Occidental.

- Landslides occurred at Purok 4 and 22, Mt. Diwata, Diwalwal, Monkayo, Compostela Valley.
- Flashflood occurred in 5 Municipalities of Compostela Valley Province (Compostela, Monkayo, Nabunturan, New Bataan, and Montevista).

_ 106 Families who evacuated at the Municipal Gymnasium and Central Elementary Schools at the height of flooding have already returned home after the water level subsided.

_ Evacuees in the Municipal Gym Central Elementary School have already returned home after the water level subsided
- Nabunturan (Brgy. Basak and Sta. Maria)
_ No evacuation was carried out at the height of the flashflood

_ No evacuation was carried out at the height of the flashflood
- Montevista (Brgy. New Visayas)
_ 18 Families who evacuated at the Municipal Gymnasium at the height of flooding have already returned home after the water level subsided
- Flooding occurred in Asuncion, Davao del Norte at 5:00 AM, 17 December 2011 affecting 514 families in Brgy. Napungas

CARAGA
|
- A total of 260 families / 1,560 persons were affected in Brgys Lingig, Surigao del Sur and Bislig City.
- Lingig Municipal Gymnasium and Mangagoy, Bislig Gymnasium were opened to shelter affected families.
